Ladies and gentlemen: We. Are. There.
Following is a portion of a recent post by Anne Barnhart wherein she has quoted Pope Leo XIII from a writing in 1890. First, let me say that I am not Catholic due to a myriad of doctrinal differences between said church and mine. Nevertheless, when someone, clergy or not, speaks to a common ideal, I'm obligated to give that speaking credit.
From her article (the whole here):
"From paragraph 5, shooting down the false premise so commonly held today that “Render unto Caesar” implies equality of the state, or even a supremacy of the state over God and His Holy Church with regards to loyalty and earthly submission:
We are bound, then, to love dearly the country whence we have received the means of enjoyment this mortal life affords, but we have a much more urgent obligation to love, with ardent love, the Church to which we owe the life of the soul, a life that will endure forever. For fitting it is to prefer the good of the soul to the well-being of the body, inasmuch as duties toward God are of a far more hallowed character than those toward men."
On the same topic but this one in recent days:

You may be on one side or the other of this particular debate. The debate is not the issue I take issue with here. It is that there are those who would be my master and would try to interject themselves between myself and my God and would dictate my conscience regarding how I may best properly serve Him. They have not that privilege nor station in this life.
Such was some of the stuff of our First War for Independence. Apparently, such will be the case again. Personal determination of worship goes as far back as Cain and Able. The rightness or wrongness of any method is not the question. The question at hand is wholly contained in whether or not a third party has the right to determine the belief system of another.
This is truly a polygonal warspace.
I've heard it rumored that there some who are in agreement with the second article noted and that discussions are taking place. But eh, what's a rumor anyway.....
