It is my firm conviction that the major share of the cause of America's dilemma today is based in one irrefutable fact: America's pulpits no longer thunder in proclaiming the complete and total Word of God. WE(myself included), my brethren of "the cloth", have retreated from the God-given responsibility of LEADERSHIP in proclaiming God's Word as applicable to every aspect of life. This comes from the heart of Rev. Chas. G. Finney, acknowledged as the father of the Second Great Awakening in America:
"Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If
immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great
degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is
responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral
discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is
degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the
world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible
for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is
responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the
very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the
pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear
brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to
our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation."(whole article)
John Adams from "Braintree,(Mass.) December 18, Wednesday. . . . The year 1765", wrote concerning the resistance to the Stamp Act that, "Our presses have groaned, our pulpits have thundered, our legislatures have resolved, our towns have voted;". This is ten years before the first free exchange of ideas on the New Continent.(whole article)
Prior to the First War for Independence, America"s pulpits were blazing the the trail for Freedom and Rightful Liberty throughout the Colonies by the Spirit-filled, uncompromising, fiery preaching that can only come from men abandoned to their cause and calling. Consequently, the King of England himself dubbed the ministers standing for relief from his heavy hand, "the Black Robe Regiment". They dared to oppose the King's edicts and raised their voices in Divinely orchestrated unison to inspire their congregants to the same. Today we fear men and what they may do to us or more importantly, what they may do to our sacred 501.c.3 status if any should dare point out the the misdirection and/or wrong-doings of our government or any candidate or his policies.
If America is to survive the coming deluge of heretofore unseen calamity and distress, we MUST FIRST rediscover and reclaim our spiritual heritage and WE, her clergy, are tasked with initiating that process.
1Peter 4:17 "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?"
As I see it, we're as lame as the man by the temple entrance to whom Peter declared, "... ARISE and WALK." So we too must STAND as our spiritual forefathers did and WALK in the Spirit, and as we go forward, our pulpits and our lives burning the overgrowth that obscures the path of Freedom and Rightful Liberty.
